Welcome to 2017! With both of us finally having seen Rogue One (it was great…you should see it), it is time to gaze into the future and check out what movies we are excited for in 2017.

Will Absolutely See in the Theater
The LEGO Batman Movie (February 10)
- Well, I love Batman, the LEGO movie and I have kids, so I am in. ~G
- Ditto here. My kids pose in front of any Lego Batman display that they see. ~A
Logan (March 3)
- Having watched Hugh Jackman as Logan since 2000 (WOW), I am looking forward to what many think will be the last time we see Jackman as the Wolverine (perhaps the most perfectly cast superhero…) ~G
- I would love to see this movie in IMAX, but it’ll all depend on who I can go with. R rating = Zero chance my kids will go, and this is a movie that I can wait for Blu-Ray. ~A
Beauty and the Beast (March 17)
- I love musicals, Disney and I have kids. I will be curious to see how this holds up as a live action movie ~G
- It looks beautifully shot. Let’s see if I can see past Hermione to see Belle, but this may be one that my kids see with my wife. She owes me one anyway. ~A
Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 (May 5)
- No brainer. Maybe a “Take a day off from work to see this movie” kind of movie ~G
- Yeah, I’ll be seeing this on day 1. My girls will be going with me too. They could handle Suicide Squad and Dr Strange. They’ll be fine with Guardians. This screams IMAX 3-D. ~A
Wonder Woman (June 2)
- As I was watching all of these trailers, no other trailer got me more hyped than the Wonder Woman trailer. It HAS to be good, right? ~G
- Sure, it HAS to be good….but will it? It’ll all depend on how many cooks are in the kitchen when it comes time to edit this movie. This is the first movie under Geoff Johns’ leadership. I can only hope that we’ll see it pay off in terms of quality. That being said, I’ll be there on day 1, just like Guardians. Out of all of the superhero movies coming out, this is the one that my wife is actually excited for. ~A
Despicable Me 3 (June 30)
- That kid’s thing again ~G
- I’ll let my mother take the kids to this one, thank you. ~A
Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7)
- Love the chemistry between RDJ and Tom Holland. Let’s hope Marvel gets this right ~G
- They will. This is another Day 1 movie for me. The best thing about this movie is the fact that Peter Parker is actually in high school, not some 30 year old. ~A
The Dark Tower (July 28)
- Time to re-read this series, although The Gunslinger was a book I had a tough time with…but this cast looks awesome ~G
- God, I hope this clicks with audiences. The cast is perfect, and so is the idea about how it will differ from the books. Without going into spoilers, there is something that happens at the end of the series that basically gives the film makers a way to change things from the source material. This is f-ing brilliant. I just have a sinking feeling that it’ll be a box office bomb. I’ll try and do my part and see it. A buddy of mine here in NJ will be game. ~A
Thor: Ragnarok (November 3)
- Yup. Worried it will try to hard to force Strange into more of the movie than is needed, but it would take an awful review (or 7) for me to miss this one ~G
- Day 1 again, because my kids are as obsessed with superhero and Star Wars films as I am. I raised them right. I think that the addition of Dr Strange makes sense, taking into consideration the mid credit scene. Every time I think a Marvel movie is overstuffed, they pull off something like Civil War. No worries here. ~A
Justice League (November 17)
- I am in a bit of a minority. I liked Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman. While I am not a huge fan of the sheer darkness of the movies, I like Cavill and Affleck in their roles and I have loved what I have seen of Jason Momoa so far. I have hope this will be good, especially since Geoff Johns is involved. ~G
- See my Wonder Woman comment above, minus the wife thing. I’ll still see it, but I hope the suits at WB keep away…….but they won’t. ~A
Star Wars: Episode VIII (December 15)
- Only question is can I get my son caught up on all of the movies by December so he can go with me ~G
- If you don’t see this on day 1, you will lose all geek credentials. ~A
Could go see it in the theater
John Wick: Chapter 2 (February 10)
- If I can get around to finishing Chapter 1, I will go. ~G
- Loved Chapter 1, but I can wait for Blu-Ray. ~A
The Great Wall (February 17)
- Maybe? If there is nothing else to do and someone else pays? ~G
- No. ~A
Kong: Skull Island (March 10)
- Most likely no ~G
- Naw. ~A
Ghost in the Shell (March 24)
- Maybe A and I can go together… ~G
- If you’re here…and if it doesn’t completely suck. If that’s the case, we’ll just watch the anime. ~A
Power Rangers (March 24)
- Maybe? I have watched more Power Rangers than I care to admit in my 30’s since my son was born, but have they gone too far with the “grim and gritty” approach? Do the Zords even look like Zords? ~G
- *zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.* Wake me up when Voltron gets the live action treatment. ~A
Fate of the Furious (April 14)
- This looks fun, but I have never seen a single Fast and Furious movie…ever. ~G
- I stopped after the first one. Point Break ripoff, just with cars. ~A
Alien: Covenant (May 19)
- Watch the red band trailer. This looks amazing. ~A
- The trailer looks cool, but I’m not an Alien guy. Will skip this ~G
Baywatch (May 26)
- I am a sucker for Dwayne Johnson ~G
- *yawn* ~A
The Mummy (June 9)
- Meh ~G
Cars 3 (June 16)
- I have kids… ~G
- No way I’m avoiding this one. ~A
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (July 21)
- Blu-ray. ~A
- Blu-ray ~G
Kingsman: The Golden Circle (October 6)
- Need to see the 1st Kingsman. I know, there are now excuses. ~A
- What he said ~G
Blade Runner 2049 (October 6)
- Yes, please. ~A
- Most likely, but it has been a long time since I have seen Blade Runner ~G
Jumanji (December 22)
- See Baywatch. ~G
- See Baywatch. ~A
The Six Billion Dollar Man (December 22)
- I loved the six million dollar man when I was a kid…maybe this won’t be terrible ~G
- I never saw it as a kid…..and this will probably be terrible. ~A
- Pessimist ~G
Waiting for Netflix
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (May 26)
Transformers: The Last Knight (June 23)
Are they making this a movie?
CHiPs (March 24)
- I did a double take when I saw this…has some funny people attached to it…will have to wait and see ~G
The Emoji Movie (August 4)
- Ummmm….no ~G
- WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA?!?!?
