Given the record snowfall here on the East Coast and the fact that I am a teacher whose school it trying to figure out where to put all of the snow, not to mention the freezing rain, I have had some time to actually watch a movie or 2. One of the 2 that I got to watch was Man of Steel. I am not going to get into a debate about the ending, but here are some random thoughts as I watched it again.
Spoilers…but nothing awful…promise
- Jor-El was great. Loved the fact that he fought so well and I really liked Russell Crowe in that role
- I didn’t mind the Krypton sequence, although the 4-winged beast that Jor-El flew seemed odd with all of the advanced technology they had.
- I enjoyed how Zack Snyder weaved the young Clark with the soon to be Superman Clark. We have seen origin stories done so many times that I appreciated the change.
- The scene where Clark flew for the first time is great. I was grinning like a kid and I did believe a man could fly (yes I know that is from the original movie)
- Loved Henry Cavill in the movie. Thought his Clark and Superman were awesome.
- Question- how could Zod and crew get to the same power levels as Clark in a day? He has been here 33 years, but he isn’t any stronger than Zod? Seems weird.
- As for the end, listen to the interview with Michael Shannon on the Nerdist Podcast. He gives a great explanation of the ending…and he should know. He is Zod. His opinion is one people should listen to. Small warning- if you have never listened to the Nerdist podcasts, they are great, but there is adult language. Be warned if you have a small child…you may be answering questions that you don’t want to.
So what do you think of the Man of Steel? Worthy successor to the originals? To dark for you? At least there wasn’t a real estate deal.
