I love my kids. Truly the most amazing thing I have done in my life is have kids and I lucky to have them and my wife in my life.  One of the challenges I have had since having kids is finding time to read.  Let me be clear.  I love to read fantasy novels.  Have since a friend (shout out to Matt Cleary) showed me Weis and Hickman’s Dragonlance series. Speaking of that, check out Aaron’s post on epic fantasy.  Its a good read…and now back to reading.

So I have stockpiled a list of books to read and here they are.  Short reviews/explanations on why I choose to put them in the pile.

Brandon Sanderson- Shadows of Self

I have been on a Brandon Sanderson kick lately.  I finished Book 2 of the Stormlight Archive- Words of Radiance and went right into this one.  Quite the difference in books as WoR is long and Shadows of Self isn’t, but both very good in their own right.  If you are a fan of the Mistborn series (and if you aren’t you should read them.  Good reads.), you will love these novels set in a different time period than the original trilogy.

Jim Butcher- The Cinder Spires: the Aeronaut’s Windlass

Next up on the pile is the new book by Jim Butcher set in a new world.  As one who has read all of the Dresden Files and all of the Codex Alera, I cannot wait to get into this series.  I am 10 pages in…and then sleep overtook me.  Again..I have kids.  I am impressed I lasted 10 pages…

Ron Chernow- Washington: a Life and Alexander Hamilton

Grouped together in my biography pile, I am excited to read more about Washington and Hamilton.  I am a music teacher by training and I am obsessed with Hamilton the MusicalThe music is amazing and I cannot wait to see the show…in 6 months as tickets are impossible to get and not take out loans.
