Grumpy Geek- Modern Cartoons

As a long time viewer of animation, I have come to the conclusion that I don’t think that most of the  cartoons on Cartoon Network aren’t good.

Yeah.  I said it…and get of my lawn while you’re at it.

I have a 3 (soon to be 4) year old son and he likes Teen Titans Go! and I was initially excited he liked a superhero cartoon.  And then I watched it…and wow.  Just wow.    Don’t get me wrong.  I like the Teen Titans (click here for a recommended reading list) and I have followed the team through its various incarnations, but this cartoon is a 20 minute fart joke.

I know that I sound like Grandpa Simpson, but I really think that the cartoons that were on when I was a kid were so much better.  Here is a brief list (check here for more because of course I cherry picked) and for the opening credits, check out out this playlist on our YouTube Channel

  • He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
  • G.I. Joe
  • Transformers (original and still the best)
  • Voltron
  • Thundercats
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  • Robotech
  • Tiny Toon Adventures
  • Darkwing Duck
  • Animaniacs
  • Duck Tales (woo ooo)

I am well aware that some don’t hold up (have you tried to watch Voltron?  ugh…) but they were the best when I was a kid.  These shows always had good vs. bad,  the animation was good (or good-adjace) and the themes were the best.   There are plenty of good cartoons on Cartoon Network…so I have been told, but I don’t know which ones.

Prove me wrong.  Links and comments encouraged!
