Arbitrary Noise Origin Story Welcome to Arbitrary Noise 3.0!

Welcome to Arbitrary Noise 3.0!

Hi there.  My name is Greg and this the origin story of Arbitrary Noise 3.0

More than a few years ago I hosted a radio show for my college radio station(WIXQ). We named the show Arbitrary Noise for the random stuff we would play and talk about. We had a blast. We didn’t always make it in every morning, but we had a great time when we were there.

A few years ago, I found a cassette tape (yes a cassette) of one our broadcasts. It’s loud, the music is firmly planted in the early 2000s and I think I had a cold, but it was fun.

Remembering all of the good times, I reached out to a friend to do a podcast using the same name. It was a great idea…for 2 episodes. It didn’t help that my wife and I were expecting our first child and my cohost had 2 children in college…the very definition of being at different points in our lives. So, arbitrary noise went quiet.

About a month ago, I had an idea. Arbitrary Noise the domain name was coming up for renewal and I wanted to do something with it…but what?  I was pondering this thought and was trying to figure out what I wanted to do.

The original list was something like this

  • Podcast again
  • Pop culture News
  • Active Twitter
  • Music Question of the Week
  • Games Den
  • Movie Reviews
  • D&D Gaming
  • What ever happened to…

When I looked at it, I realized that all of these things had been done before.  What could I add?  What could I say that others hadn’t?  So the the question had become “but why?”  I am a 38 year old father of 2 living in PA with my wife, kids and 2 dogs…wait a minute…how often were these topics (and others) talked about from the perspective of a soon to be middle aged dad?  I called my good friend Aaron (also a 38 year old father of 3 living in NJ with his wife, kids and a cat) and pitched the idea.  He was in!

Since then Aaron and I have been bouncing ideas back and forth while I switched the old iWeb site (RIP iWeb) to WordPress and we would get started so here we go.

What you can expect

We are going to update the site on a regular basis as we find things of interest to us: video games, role-playing, music, tech, etc- a true arbitrary experience.  We are going to do a podcast…once I figure out the tools to do that (suggestions welcome).  We are going to build our YouTube Channel, our Twitter and maybe a few other things.  Please feel free to comment and add in the discussions.

Both Aaron and I are excited to get started so let’s go!
